Cardiac vomiting.

چکیده
This survey was stimulated by a recent article on vomiting as a diagnostic aid in acute cardiac ischaemia in which the incidence of vomiting in 109 consecutive coronary care unit patients was prospectively related to the nature and site of infarction. ' In transmural infarction, about half the patients had vomited, even before the use of analgesic drugs. This high incidence was not seen in subendocardial infarction and the authors concluded that "the vomiting reflex, if such exists, might arise as a consequence of damage to the subpericardial tissue". The authors briefly referred to the possibility of the nausea and autonomic disturbance being related to the BezoldJarisch reflex. It may be of interest to review the now extensive physiological data on this subject, which has clinical relevance to many other circulatory disturbances.

Introduction: Controversy remains as to the advantages and disadvantages of pharyngeal packing during septorhinoplasty. Our study investigated the effect of pharyngeal packing on postoperative nausea and vomiting and sore throat following this type of surgery or septorhinoplasty. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was performed on 90 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) I or II...
متن کاملVomiting as a diagnostic aid in acute ischaemic cardiac pain.
The incidence of vomiting before the administration of analgesics was studied in 109 patients admitted to hospital as emergencies with prolonged ischaemic cardiac pain. In transmural myocardial infarction (58 patients) the incidence was 43% (anterior infarction 58%, inferior infarction 41%). Of the 23 patients with myocardial necrosis but without transmural infarction (that is, those with diffu...
متن کاملHaloperidol: an alternative butyrophenone for nausea and vomiting prophylaxis in anesthesia.
Droperidol has been an efficacious, inexpensive butyrophenone used since the early 1970s to prevent or treat postoperative nausea and vomiting. Because of reports of sudden cardiac death in patients receiving droperidol, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently placed significant restrictions on its administration. These restrictions have essentially removed droperidol from use. Halop...
متن کاملMidazolam: an effective antiemetic after cardiac surgery--a clinical trial.
Cardiac surgery has been associated with a significant incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). To assess the antiemetic property of midazolam, we undertook this double-blinded, randomized trial in 200 patients undergoing cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass, and we compared its efficacy with that of ondansetron in preventing PONV. Assessments on the occurrence of PONV...

The objective of this study was to describe Anesthesia related complications in children undergoing elective GI endoscopy. Materials and Methods: The study design was descriptive on 1388 patients undergoing elective GI endoscop...
متن کاملAntiemetic prophylaxis in cardiac surgery: comparison of metoclopramide and ondansetron.
We have compared the effectiveness of ondansetron (115 patients) and metoclopramide (101 patients) for prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass. In a prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind study, patients received oral ondansetron 16 mg or oral metoclopramide 10 mg, 1-2 h before surgery. Anaesthesia was no...
